Zanzibar Archipelago Mangrove Project

The Zanzibar Archipelago Mangrove Project (ZAMP) is restoring in excess of 4,000 hectares of degraded mangroves across 40 Shehia communities in Zanzibar. Through participatory mapping, community co-design, and bespoke carbon accounting, it links local knowledge with emerging blue carbon markets. Governed by locally embedded structures through Sazani Trust Zanzibar, ZAMP supports women- and youth-led enterprises and aligns with Zanzibar’s carbon regulations to deliver verified credits and co-benefits that advance climate resilience and impact investment at large today.

Peterson & MEP

Since 2024, Sazani Associates has partnered with Petersons to support responsible and inclusive supply-chain development across blue economy, minerals and pharmaceutical sectors. The work combined GESI-focused diagnostic assessments with social risk and governance analysis across fisheries, seaweed and complex fisheries value chains, in the South Pacific. In the pharmaceutical context, Sazani contributed risk analysis aligned with OECD Due Diligence Guidance, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and emerging regulatory expectations under CSRD and CSDDD,  with a focus on conflict minerals, complementing Petersons’ technical and commercial expertise. Across both sectors, the focus was on identifying material social risks, participation gaps and structural barriers, and translating these into practical, auditable recommendations to inform policy dialogue, supply-chain upgrading and compliance-ready business models

Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development

In 2025, we began our collaboration with JOHUD’s (Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development)  supporting their transformation and strengthening inclusive, community-led development. Through participatory action learning, we’ve co-developed their Theory of Change, designed MEAL systems, delivered training on stakeholder engagement and data tools, and supported the rollout of baseline assessments. Our collaboration has built capacity across CDCs and helped embed process-oriented, reflective practice into JOHUD’s programming.

The VECTOR Project

Between 2022 and 2025, Sazani Associates led a number of research activities in the Horizon Europe VECTOR Project, focusing on social and governance impacts of sourcing Critical Raw Materials for Europe’s Green Deal. This involved the use of a range of research tools to understand how public and professional values shape decisions around CRM extraction, developing a Shared Value impact tool to support innovative, human-centred business models and co-creating CPD training using scenario-based approaches. We worked across Europe, enabling industry, policymakers and communities to navigate the ethical, social and environmental trade-offs of a low-carbon/digital future.
