Experience an enriching adventure that combines volunteering with tourism through the Coastal Education and Reforestation Initiative (CERI). For just £900, enjoy a two-week stay in Zanzibar that includes accommodation, food, activities, and transport.

Our carefully crafted programs address local needs and foster sustainable change through training and empowerment activities developed with our partners. As a volunteer, you will embark on a breathtaking journey to Zanzibar, engaging with local communities and supporting vocational training centers. Collaborate with various ministries in Tanzania and present the benefits of educational and innovative collaboration.

Blue solutions

The Blue Solutionsaims to address critical environmental challenges and support sustainable livelihoods in Zanzibar's coastal communities. This program focuses on the rehabilitation and conservation of vital coastal ecosystems such as mangroves By engaging volunteers in activities like mangrove planting, beach surveys and clean up campaigns, Blue Solutions promotes biodiversity, enhances coastal resilience, and empowers local populations through education and sustainable practices. Volunteers contribute to meaningful conservation efforts while gaining a deep understanding of Zanzibar’s unique coastal environment and culture

Day 1-2: Arrival and Orientation

Arrive in Zanzibar, orientation session, welcome lunch.

Day 3-4: Introduction to Mangroves

Workshop on mangrove importance, site visit for planting and maintenance.

Day 4-5: School Engagement

Visit one of our partner school, interactive activities with students.

Day 6-7 Mangrove-biodiversity

Visit to a mangrove, forest to carry out quadrant surveys of flora and fauna.

Day 8: Trip to Chumbe Island

Departure to Chumbe Island, guided tour of coral reefs and forest reserve, snorkeling.

Day 9-10: Environmental Education and Community Outreach

Conduct a survey of coastal biodiversity, including data collection on local species.

Day 11-12: Coastal Clean-Up and Reflection

Coastal clean-up activity, reflection session on week’s activities and creating of social media posts
Finally, days 13 and 14 provide leisure time to unwind and enjoy

the stunning Sazani Beach.

Green legacy

The Green Legacy initiative is dedicated to combating deforestation and promoting sustainable land use in Zanzibar. This program engages volunteers in tree planting, forest conservation, and community education efforts to restore and protect the island’s vital terrestrial ecosystems. By participating in activities such as nursery management, agroforestry training, and environmental workshops, volunteers help increase biodiversity, improve local air and soil quality, and support sustainable agriculture. The Green Legacy initiative not only contributes to environmental conservation but also empowers local communities with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain and enhance their natural resources.

Day 1: Arrival and Welcome

Arrival in Zanzibar: Airport pickup and support in settling in.
Welcome Session: Introduction to the team and fellow volunteers.

Days 2-3: Orientation and Cultural Immersion

Orientation Sessions: Held at the Sazani Offices in Zanzibar.
Cultural Immersion: Activities and discussions about local customs and traditions.
Project Introduction: Overview of the Green Legacy Project’s goals and activities.

Days 4-7: Project Activities

Mangrove Restoration: Visit restoration sites, learn about ecological significance, and participate in planting efforts.
Forest Surveys: Conduct quadrant surveys to catalog flora and fauna for biodiversity monitoring.
Community Engagement: Promote sustainable land management practices with local communities.

Day 8: Trip to Jozani Forest

Jozani Forest Visit: Explore the unique ecosystem, learn about conservation efforts, and observe the endangered red colobus monkey.

Days 9-12: Quadrant and Transect Surveys

Detailed Surveys: Continue quadrant and transect surveys to document plant and animal species.
Social Media Content: Create reels and content to raise awareness about conservation efforts.

Days 13-14: Leisure Time at Sazani Beach

Relaxation: Enjoy leisure time at Sazani Beach, reflecting on the volunteer experience.
Final Discussions: Reflect on the impact of contributions and enjoy the coastal environment.

Road safety awareness

The Road Safety Awareness initiative focuses on improving road safety and reducing traffic-related accidents in Zanzibar. This program involves volunteers in educational campaigns, community workshops, and infrastructure assessments to promote safe driving practices and enhance public awareness. Volunteers work alongside local schools, community groups, and authorities to deliver road safety training, create informative materials, and organize awareness events. Through these efforts, the initiative aims to foster a culture of road safety, protect vulnerable road users, and ultimately save lives by reducing the incidence of traffic accidents

Day 1: Arrival and Welcome

Days 9-12: Road Safety Campaigns

Campaign Activities: Participate in road safety action campaigns, including creating and distributing posters and messages to raise awareness.

Days 13-14: Leisure Time at Sazani Beach

Relaxation: Enjoy free time to relax and unwind at the beautiful Sazani Beach.
Final Reflections: Reflect on your contributions and experiences while enjoying the coastal environment

Enterprise and marketing skills

Overview: This initiative addresses high youth unemployment and rural poverty in Zanzibar. Creating space for 'blue sky' thinking and developing healthy and sustainable life skills to build young people's capabilities to access to improved future prospects. Graduate volunteers are offered an opportunity in supporting this initiative, to make a significant impact over four weeks.

Week 1: Introduction to Zanzibar and Key Skills

Arrival and Cultural Induction: Welcome and orientation in Zanzibar.
Introduction and overview of the Youth Enterprise Skills (YES) scheme.
Support Sazani to mentor young people to develop a Growth Mindset: Engage in practical activities with the slogan "Your Best You, Your Best Idea."
Support Applications and Interviews, using Sazani materials to provide guidance on job applications, CVs and interview technique

Week 2: Youth Enterprise Skills

Entrepreneurial Thinking: support young people to develop problem-solving and entrepreneurial skills.
Sustainability and Responsible Business: Share learning about sustainable and ethical business practices.
Financial Planning and Negotiation: Support strategies for starting and managing a business, including financial planning and negotiation skills.
Overcoming Setbacks: Introduce techniques for navigating and overcoming business challenges.
Exploration and Relaxation: Enjoy free time to explore Zanzibar and participate in a choice of tours: Chumbe island, Jozani Forest, Spice Farms or a night at Sazani Beach Lodge.

Weeks 3-4: Marketing Your Product

Revisit "Your Best You, Your Best Idea." to take forwards
Market Understanding: Learn and share the seven C’s of marketing and digital marketing strategies.
Digital Campaign Crafting: Support digital literacy skills to develop and implement a digital marketing campaign.
Exploration and Relaxation: Enjoy free time to explore Zanzibar and participate in a choice of tours: Chumbe island, Jozani Forest, Spice Farms or a night at Sazani Beach Lodge.

STONE TOWN ACCOMODATION

Fahmi Lodge is located in the centre of Stone Town, the

historic heart of Zanzibar, a captivating labyrinth of narrow

streets, bustling markets, and carved wooden doors. The

UNESCO World Heritage site is rich in cultural and

historical significance, featuring a blend of Swahili, Arabic,

Persian, Indian, and European architectural styles.
